What is a Community Fundraiser?
A Community Fundraiser is any activity organized by a group, organization, or individual to raise money in support of Southlake Regional Health Centre. It’s a great way to honour a loved one or colleague, celebrate a milestone, or say thank you for the care you or someone you know received.

Can I choose to support a specific area of the hospital?
Yes! You can support a specific program, like cancer or cardiac, or you can choose to support our Priority Needs to have the biggest impact.

Do I need a license to have a 50/50 draw or raffle at my event?
Yes. Any activity where tickets are sold for a chance to win a prize, including 50/50, elimination and calendar draws and raffles, is considered a lottery and requires a license. The Town Offices will license raffles with prizes up to $50,000. Raffles with prizes over $50,000 are licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Only non-profit organizations are eligible for licenses. Southlake Foundation is unable to hold a license or request a license on behalf of a third party.

Who is eligible for charitable donation tax receipts?
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) allows Southlake Foundation to issue charitable donation receipts on eligible donations in the calendar year they are received. At Southlake Foundation any donations made on behalf of a business or organization will receive a Business Acknowledgement Receipt, unless a tax receipt is requested.

Will Southlake Foundation promote my event?
Absolutely! Just to start, we’ll share the details of your event with our hospital staff and on social media to encourage participation prior to your event.

Can I use the Southlake or Southlake Foundation logo to advertise my event?
We provide a special logo to all registered Community Fundraisers that can be used on approved promotional materials for your event.

Will Southlake Foundation send out a press release to media about my event?
We’re not able to contact the media on behalf of third party events, but we do have resources and templates available to give you everything you need to do that yourself. You’ll have access to these resources through your online Participant Centre once you register your event with us.

I have completed my event. When and how do I submit the funds I raised?
All funds must be collected and submitted to Southlake Foundation within 60 days of your event. Events can make donations directly to your event fundraising page, however if individual donations are being made and require tax receipts, donations should be made by those individuals direct to the event page or to Southlake Foundation. However, we can also work with you on submitting all documentation from anyone who gives using another means.

Can I have access to Southlake’s donor list to gain sponsorship and/or participation for my event?
No. Sponsorship and participation for Community Fundraisers are the sole responsibility of the event organizer(s). Southlake Foundation respects the privacy of our donors, and is bound by strict privacy and confidentiality policies. Under no circumstances will Southlake Foundation share any donor information.
