That's the expression used by the gentleman who inspired this event back in 2002. Bob Hartwell was my best friend. He passed while paticipating in the Toronto Marathon on October 14th, 2001. A number of close friends and colleagues wanted to find a way to honour Bob and the first Hartwell Challenge took place in the Spring of 2002.
That event has evolved into the Run for Southlake and this is the 15th Anniversary of the event. Now supporting our hospital, I am thrilled to be the Co-Chair of the event and participating as Captain of Team "Damn Straight".
I'm convinced Bob never really knew what the expression meant...he just liked the sound of it and it always brought a mischievious smirk to his face. That's good enough a reason for me!
Bob was a huge community guy. The community meant a lot to him as it did to his wife Barb (a fellow former Southlake Foundation Board member).
I know Bob would be thrilled to see how this event has grown and has supported Southlake to the tune of nearly $1million so far.
If you didn't know Bob, trust me, you would have loved him. And...by participating in this year's 15th Anniversary event you will help many friends and their families who benefit from the great care they all recieve by the incredible staff that provide world class care!
Oh...and Bob will be with us...the silhouette featured in the logo is that of Bob running his last race. Here's to you my friend "Damn Straight".
